Ondřej Petrlík (1989)

2009–2015 Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, studio of Vladimír Skrepl and Jiří Kovanda, 2012 internship at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Dresden, with H.P. Adamski. Ondřej Petrlík is a Czech painter whose work moves between figuration and abstraction, personal mythology and visual introspection. He grew up among antiques and into the post-internet era, his painting combines expression, playfulness, exoticism and cultural references. Recently, his work has been strongly oriented towards landscape motifs and at the same time reflects the history of art, connecting personal experiences with archetypal and historical visual references. The works often depict fragments of bodies, animals and dreamscapes, creating visual scenes from the inner world. Ondřej Petrlík’s works are part of private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad. Notable collections include Galerie Wannieck and Osmička.

František Bruner-Dvořák (1862–1927) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, then graduated from the Art Academy in Vienna and Munich. Later he worked in Italy, and in 1889–1895 he traveled the US – the studio in Philadelphia, Chicago or Detroit – where he gained great popularity with his portraits and genre scenes, which he focused mainly. France became another destination in 1895–1904, where his work focuses more on figural art and symbolism. In 1905 he returned to Bohemia and settles in the studio on Prague and works on a major order – painting portraits of members of the d´Este aristocratic family, which you can see now in the Konopiště national chateau. Towards the end of his life, Dvořák is newly devoted to landscape painting. This period can also include this scene, which captures a distant view of the ruins of Trosky Castle.
