Description

Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884) was a Czech composer of the Romantic period. He came from a wealthy family, studied music, and worked in Prague and Sweden. He composed eight operas, with “Prodaná nevěsta” being the most famous. Despite losing his hearing at fifty, he created significant works, including “Má vlast” and a string quartet. Smetana is seen as a founder of modern Czech music, influencing future composers, though he is less known globally than Dvořák or Janáček.
