Description
Milarepa (c. 1040–1123) was a legendary Tibetan Buddhist yogi and poet who famously transformed from a murderer into an enlightened saint in a single lifetime.
After seeking revenge with black magic against relatives who stole his family’s inheritance, he turned to Buddhism out of deep remorse. He endured severe physical trials under his master, Marpa the Translator, including building and demolishing massive stone towers to purify his negative karma.
Milarepa eventually spent decades in solitary meditation in Himalayan caves, surviving on wild nettles until his skin turned green. He is revered as a patriarch of the Kagyu lineageand is best known for his spontaneous spiritual poetry, preserved as “The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa”
